We started off the 4th with a sweet little parade down Barracks Row (next to the marine base) led by the Marine Band. It is such a fun tradition on the Hill and actually feels small town in the middle of a big city. That is what we LOVE about Capitol Hill, especially during the holidays, how it is so quiet but at the same time what town has their own Marine Band that the president uses to start off their parade:) It is pretty funny too because everyone wants to be in the parade, so hardly anyone was there to watch us all parade until the very end where all the people who were in the parade crowd around to watch the rest of the people. Violet loved being in the parade, waved her flag, and threw candy! Owen slept through the whole thing:) We ended the parade with slurpees and naps. Then we went over and had barbque with friends and walked down to watch the fireworks on the Mall. It was so nice to just be able to slip in, see the firework show, and be home before most people had even cleared out of the area. Violet loved the firework show and wasn't scared at all. In fact she got out of bed that night to come tell me she heard fireworks with a big grin on her face.
