Here are some more fun shots from our 2 weeks at Colonial Beach. The kids had a great time and I totally recommend this place for anyone who just wants to get away from it all...

Days 1 & 2 at Colonial Beach, VA

Havilah and I decided it would be fun to rent a place at the beach for 2 weeks. We found this little beach town called Colonial Beach in Northern Neck, VA that is only 1 1/2 hrs from DC. Mom is here with us for the first week and then Chase, his friend, and Havilah's oldest friend are coming down for the second week. It's so nice too since we are so close to DC that Brandon can come down for the weekends to see us and play at the beach. The beach is nice for the kids too in that it has no waves because it is where the bay and the Potomac meet.

Day 1 (Sunday)- we spent the morning at the beach. All day it looked like it was going to start raining any minute, but it never did. We heard DC was not that lucky on Sunday though. Violet made a little friend who let her play with his boogie board. They played for quite awhile on that, so I need to go find one for her to use for the next 2 weeks. And Owen of course had no fear and loved being thrown all around in the water!
Day 2- Berry Picking
We took the kids to Westmoreland BerryFarm this morning. Violet loved picking blackberries and Owen loved squishing them and sampling:) It was pretty hot but lots of fun! We all took a long nap when we got back to the house.

A1:8 Summer Small Group

Our church did a summer series called A1:8. It was based on the idea that we should be taking care of our neighbors and building community with them. Each group planned a different project to serve and reach out to the people living around us.

My group, the moms group, did a diaper drive to benefit Capitol Hill Pregnancy Center. We decided to come up with a goal and after much deliberation came up with 5,000! Quite a big number and I really did think we were reaching a bit with this, but figured what the heck! So, we asked friends, family, neighbors, posted on freecycle and other listserves, and collected at all of our church locations. This week ended the study and we turned in all our diapers to the center. The total was 5,184 diapers!! Wow, that is a lot of little tushies that are going to be covered:)
Brandon and Havilah did a small group on H St for where we live. Their group decided to make pies to take to elderly people in the neighborhood. Violet got to help them too:) It was so fun to see her get to take part in building community with those around us too!
